China Open to Talks with US to Strengthen Bilateral Trade Ties

Responding to concerns over potential tariffs proposed by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, Wang stated that China is prepared to “resolve and resist” external economic shocks, emphasizing resilience amid trade tensions.

China’s Vice Commerce Minister Wang Shouwen announced on Friday that the country is ready to engage in active dialogue with the United States to foster mutual respect and strengthen bilateral trade relations. Responding to concerns over potential tariffs proposed by U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, Wang stated that China is prepared to “resolve and resist” external economic shocks, emphasizing resilience amid trade tensions.

The prospect of tariffs exceeding 60% on Chinese goods has prompted manufacturers to relocate operations to Southeast Asia, reflecting growing uncertainty. Additionally, the Chinese yuan, which initially rose 10% during Trump’s first term, experienced a 12% decline due to tariffs and the pandemic, signaling potential volatility in the face of further trade disruptions.
